Tai Chi

What is Tai Chi?

  • Tai Chi a Chinese martial art which is over one thousand years old.
  • Tai Chi was used for self-defence in ancient China and is currently widely practiced for good health,
  • self-awareness and spiritual development.

How can Tai Chi help me?

  • Practicing Tai Chi can help people with poor health become stronger, the hyperactive become at ease,
  • the anxious become confident and the angry feel calmer.

How does Tai Chi work?

  • Tai Chi self- heals the body by encouraging Chi (life force) to flow through the acupuncture meridians.
  • The acupuncture meridians run through the entire body connecting every part.  With age, the flow of Chi can be impaired by poor diet, unhealthy life style, illness, mental and physical stress. Practicing Tai Chi daily can increase the Chi through all the acupuncture meridians to regain good health and vitality. When muscles are relaxed during Tai Chi practice, the flow of blood and Chi is not restricted and the organs through which the meridian passes are energized and strengthen.

What will I experience?

  • People who practise Tai Chi, experience Chi energy flowing through their meridians which feels like a warm electric glow and possible tingling sensation in the fingers.
  • Where Chi goes, blood follows so by increasing the Chi flow, you increase the circulation of blood and if you suffer from cold hands and feet, they will gradually become warmer as your circulation improves.

Is Tai Chi safe?

  • As long as beginners do beginner level techniques they will be safe.
  • You should always train at your own level and always consult your GP if you have a medical condition.

What should I wear?

  • Wear loose clothing that does not constrict your movement or blood flow like a track bottom and a T-shirt.
  • Remove wrist watch and avoid wearing a tight belt around your waist.
  • Wear flat-soled shoes, rather than heeled running shoes for better posture and rooting.

Other beneficial considerations

  • Please allow an hour to digest your food before the class.
  • Drink water to keep hydrated.
  • Refrain from alcohol before class.
  • Do not train if you are on medication.
